Voter Registration Deadline For Arizona Primary is Today

Do you want to vote in the upcoming primary election? The deadline to register to vote or update a party preference for Arizona’s August 4th primary election is today, Monday, July 6.

Residents with a valid state driver license or identification card can register to vote or request a party ballot through ServiceArizona.com. A printable form can be found here but must be returned to the applicable county recorder’s office by Monday.

Citizens must be at least 18 by the Nov. 3 general election date and a resident of the state to vote in the primary. Voters do not need to be a registered Democrat or Republican to vote in the primary election. Independents can vote in the primary election, but must request a party ballot to vote in the primary.

Secretary of State Katie Hobbs is encouraging voters to sign up for the state’s permanent early voter list so they get a mail ballot. Vote by mail not only is a convenient way to vote but also offers voters the option of not having to go to a polling location during the coronavirus pandemic.

Members of Congress, the state legislature, and three corporation commission seats are on the ballot, plus local elections.

A few minor changes have been implemented due to the pandemic.

Maricopa County voters do not have to go to an assigned polling location. Instead, voters can cast their ballot at any vote center.

Special precautions will be instituted to protect poll workers and voters from the spread of the virus. The state approved $9 million in federal funds to make sure voters stay safe this election season by hiring more staff and stocking up on items like PPE and cleaning supplies.

“We’ll be disinfecting the pens, poll workers are required to wear masks and gloves, face shields so safety is very important. We are ensuring voters if they choose to go in person, that they can be safe,” explained Erika Flores, Deputy Director of Communications for the Maricopa County Elections Department.

In addition, evening and weekend in-person voting will be available to allow voters time to cast a ballot.
