Child Hospitalized After Accidental Shooting in Phoenix

A tragic situation for a family in Phoenix after an apparent accidental shooting Saturday afternoon.

Phoenix police responded to a shots fired call at an apartment complex near 19th Avenue and Indian School Road.

When police arrived, they found a young child with a gunshot wound. Phoenix fire rushed the child to the hospital.

An investigation led police to believe the child had access to the gun inside the apartment. While handling it, the gun went off and struck the child.

The child is in stable condition at the hospital.

No one else was injured in the shooting.

Police have not arrested anyone in connection with the shooting, however an investigation is underway to determine the details of the incident.
