Officer Harold Boswell

A teenager and a man have been indicted on multiple charges in connection to a shooting that left a Phoenix Police officer injured.

Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell recently announced the indictment of Mathew Rodriguez and Jamiah Mower.

On March 29th, near 35th Avenue and Southern Avenues, alerted to a report of people trying to rob two women in a parked car, Phoenix Police Officer Harold Boswell was in the process of helping the two women, only to be confronted by gunfire coming from Rodriguez and Mower.

17-year-old Mathew Rodriguez was arrested a day after the ambush and is facing adult charges. Mower, 20, was arrested in Las Vegas days after the shooting and was recently extradited to Maricopa County. The juvenile is currently being prosecuted in juvenile court.

Mower and Rodriguez have been indicted on the following charges:

  • One count of attempt to commit armed robbery, a Class Three Felony;
  • Two counts of aggravated assault, a Class Three Felony;
  • One count of aggravated assault, a Class Two Felony;
  • One count of kidnapping, a Class Two Felony; and
  • One count of unlawful discharge of a firearm, a Class Six Felony.

“Officer Boswell is a hero who was trying to help two victims being threatened at gunpoint,” said County Attorney Rachel Mitchell. “These defendants are a young adult and a juvenile facing very serious felonies but the danger to Officer Boswell and the victims cannot be understated.”

Boswell was hospitalized after the shooting. He is now recovering at home. He is expected to make a full recovery.

All felonies above are dangerous which means if convicted, the defendants would face a mandatory prison sentence. Mower is being held on a $250,000 cash only bond. Rodriguez is being held on a $150,000 secured appearance bond.
