Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office Warning About Fraudulent Phone Calls

Individuals pretending to be law enforcement officers are utilizing telephone calls as a means to deceive people into sending them money.

The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office is warning about the surge cases regarding deceitful individuals who are proclaiming to the sheriff’s office calling about an unsettled fee that they are required to settle.

During the call, a pre-recorded message was played by an individual claiming to be a deputy from MCSO. The message contained instructions to contact the scammers at a phone number and email address that were given.

What You Need To Know About The Scam:

-The payment requested by callers often involves gift cards, cryptocurrency, wire transfers, and payment apps.

-The callers tend to be pushy and unwilling to end the call.

According to the MCSO, it is crucial to keep in mind that neither they nor any other law enforcement or government organization would ever make a phone call to ask for payment for warrants, missed court dates, ticket fines, or jury duty.

If targeted by a scam, write down the phone number of the caller and notify your local law enforcement agency. Do not give the caller any personal information or agree to provide any payment. Scam perpetrators will do all they can to insist you stay on the phone with them the entire time. This is a red flag. It is advised to end the call and contact your local law enforcement non-emergency phone number to report the incident.
