Hilariously Outrageous New Musical “Ghost Of John McCain” Names New Director and Heads To Big Apple For Off-Broadway Run

Quixote Productions, founded by political strategist and public relations executive Jason Rose, in conjunction with long-time John McCain consultant and public affairs executive Max Fose, is proud to announce the hilariously new musical Ghost of John McCain will make its World Premiere Off-Broadway at the Soho Playhouse directed by Catie Davis.

Authored by Scott Elmegreen, with Drew Fornarola serving as composer and lyricist, Ghost of John McCain offers a unique psychological exploration of power, rivalry, and the human condition.

The production will open Labor Day Weekend 2024, and run through Election Day, November 5th 2024.

Catie Davis, known for her work as Associate Director on Beetlejuice and Moulin Rouge! The Musical, has joined the production as the show’s director and Andrew Neisler, director of the hit show Clown Bar, has signed on as dramaturg of the timely piece. Carnahan Casting and Jason Thinger, CSA are handling the casting for the production.

I’m excited to join the team behind this wildly imaginative and quirky musical,” said Director Catie Davis. “To build a theatrical world where political figures of past and present are held hostage inside Donald Trump’s brain, and his brain is a musical? What a delightfully fun challenge. The writing of Ghost of John McCain will have audience members leaning into the twists and turns of this timely, hilarious story.”

Fresh from January’s “29-Hour Reading” at Sunlight Studios in New York City, Ghost of John McCain, producers, and the creative team decided to take advantage of the election year with an astonishingly relevant comedic work. Coverage of the work has already appeared in Deadline, Arizona Republic, and The Messenger.

“The timing for this production is extremely relevant,” said Co-Leader Jason Rose of Quixote Productions, “Our goal is not to be just another poker turning up the heat, but to bring some relief, relevance, and comedy to everyone in the body politic. We may be in a presidential election year, but this is an evergreen story anchored by the tension and dynamic between two titans of the past century. The musical is surreal.”

Rose’s Quixote Productions created ¡Americano! which ran off Broadway in 2022 and Tiananmen, a new musical which had its premiere at the Phoenix Theater Company for a 5-week run in October 2023.

Rose and Fose are seeking additional financial backers in earnest in the next couple of weeks toward their approximately 2-million-dollar production goal. Co-conceived by Rose and the late former Arizona Attorney Grant Woods the musical takes audiences on a journey into the afterlife, where Senator John McCain finds himself trapped inside the mind of none other than Donald Trump.

“Having served for nearly two decades, I believe Senator John McCain would laugh at this entertainment and be grateful his legacy continues to spark important conversation from the serious to the absurd. This musical will remind America our democracy is worth fighting for,” said Co-Lead Producer Max Fose.

As McCain contemplates a wonderful afterlife, he instead finds that “heaven” is inside within Trump’s brain where, a “Greek Chorus” of iconic figures, including Hillary Clinton, Roy Cohn, Eva Peron, Teddy Roosevelt, Robert Jordan, and Lindsey Graham, rebel against the President’s relentless demands for affirmation.

New York based Aherns Productions will serve as the show’s General Manager. Cast announcements will take place in Summer 2024. The Ghost team will be organizing another “29 Hour Reading” in April or early May for additional backers and to select audiences.
