A man from Phoenix has been extradited to Kansas to face charges in connection with a 42-year-old murder, following a multi-state investigation.

According to a statement released by the Kansas Bureau of Investigation, Jerry Allen, 75, was taken into custody at his home near 44th Street and Thunderbird Road on Wednesday. He was booked into the Maricopa County jail for first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder. He was extradited back to Kansas on Wednesday and booked into the Reno County Jail.

In late January, law enforcement officials obtained a warrant for his arrest and apprehended him in Phoenix for the murder of Michael McKeown in March 1982. He was then transported to Kansas after agreeing to waive extradition.

According to the KBI, it is suspected that McKeown was fatally shot while sitting in his car in the parking lot near his residence in Hutchinson. His remains were discovered the following day.

KBI agents carried out a number of crucial interviews across three states. These interviews yielded the necessary additional evidence to move forward with the charges in this unsolved case.

Additional details in the case have not been released, including how Allen and the victim knew each other.

According to the KBI, Allen is expected to face charges on Friday during his initial court appearance.
