Macerich Co., a well-known owner and developer of shopping centers, has decided to postpone its proposed construction of a new office building classified as Class A.

The planned review of Macerich’s 10-story office building at Biltmore Fashion Park by the city of Phoenix’s planning hearing officer on Feb. 21 has been put on hold. According to Ben Graff, a partner at Quarles & Brady LLP and the legal representative for Macerich’s development, the application was withdrawn in order to make some changes before resubmitting it.

In the event that the project does progress, it will contribute to a significant investment in the popular Camelback Corridor, a leading office market in the Valley.

The Planning and Historic Preservation Office (PHO) is responsible for reviewing requests to alter or eliminate agreements made in approved rezoning cases, extending time limits for properties with conditional zoning, making limited changes to comprehensive sign plans, and initiating zoning reversions through the Planning Commission. If Macerich’s case had been approved by the PHO, it would have been presented to the Phoenix City Council for ratification at their March 20 meeting.
