Authorities Cracking Down On Under Age Drinking at the WM Phoenix Open

The authorities in Scottsdale are ready to take action against minors consuming alcohol at the WM Phoenix Open event this year.

With the massive turnout that the WM Phoenix Open sees every year, it can be a bit of a challenge to prevent underage drinking, However, the Scottsdale police department are prioritizing the issue of underage drinking at this year’s golf tournament and have already apprehended multiple individuals.

16 individuals under the age of 21 were removed from the event and three were taken into custody during the practice round this week.

According to Scottsdale detectives, they collaborated with the Department of Liquor to provide training to the entire staff of WM Phoenix Open in order to spot instances of underage drinking. Both uniformed and undercover officers will be present at TPC to monitor any potential cases of underage drinking. The Scottsdale Police stated that their focus will be on identifying individuals who are heavily intoxicated. If a person appears to be of a young age, they will be approached and asked for their identification.

Authorities report that a common method for individuals under the age of 21 to obtain alcohol wristbands is by using fake identification that can fool the scanners at the gate. He also mentions that not only will this result in receiving a citation, but it can also lead to being ejected from TPC during the entire duration of the WM Phoenix Open. And in some cases charges could be filed.
