On Tuesday, court documents were released revealing that a 19-year-old female had fatally shot a love interest in a west Phoenix residence. The suspect was later apprehended.

The Phoenix Police reported that Chamille Tapia-Hernandez was engaged in an altercation with 23-year-old Alyssa Candelaria Gomez inside a shed in the backyard of a residence close to 75th Avenue and Indian School Road shortly after 12 PM on October 31. According to a witness, the man they were both seeing had rented the shed. The dispute became heated, and according to the police, Tapia-Hernandez took out a gun and shot Gomez in the abdomen. Both the man and Tapia-Hernandez then fled the backyard. Emergence responders arrived and transported Gomez to the hospital, where she passed away.

The police reported that a witness who was in the backyard at the time of the shooting confirmed that Tapia-Hernandez was the shooter. Tapia-Hernandez was seen heading north on 74th Avenue.

Court documents report that Tapia-Hernandez was apprehended on Thursday while in her mother’s car. After being interviewed by detectives, Tapia-Hernandez denied any romantic involvement with the man, but she said that his girlfriends were jealous of her being able to stay with him in the shed. Court papers stated that she confessed to having a hard time with her addiction to drugs and that she was under the influence two days before the shooting.

Tapia-Hernandez told officers she was innocent, claiming to have heard the gunshot and only taken the handgun out of fear. During police questioning, she questioned if it was possible something took over her body, causing her to shoot Gomez. Tapia-Hernandez was arrested and charged with second-degree murder, with a bail set at $1 million.
