As the Arizona Diamondbacks are battling to remain in the World Series hunt, there is another fight underway with the city of Dallas and it is all for a good cause.

St. Mary’s Food Bank is hosting their “Strike Out Hunger” campaign, and has issued a challenge to two Dallas food banks in a battle to see which city can raise more money to help feed families in need.

During the National League Championship Series, during the Diamondbacks/Phillies playoffs, St. Mary’s challenged the Philabundance foodbank to see which charity could raise more money from their fans. The contest was a huge success for both food banks, having raised more than $69,000. St. Mary’s received $31,692 in donations.

St. Mary’s Food Bank is continuing the friendly competition in their  fundraising efforts and has challenged, the Dallas-area food banks North Texas and Tarrant. Each cities food banks are inviting fans to make monetary donations in the name of their baseball team. Arizona Diamondback fans can make donations on the St. Mary’s website.

St. Mary’s reports that for every $1.00 dollar that is donated, they are able to provide five meals to Arizona families struggling with food needs. All monetary donations go a long way in helping those in need.

The food banks have another bet on the line! Whichever charity raises the least amount of money, the food bank CEO will wear a t-shirt and hat of the winning food bank and post the photos on social media.

So as we root on and wait for our Arizona Diamondbacks to bring home their second world championship, why not do something great for the community and make a donation to the St. Mary’s Food Bank in honor of this exciting championship run.
