Scottsdale City Council Unanimously Approves Parental Paid Leave For City Employees

In a move that sets a benchmark for employee benefits and prioritizes work-life balance, the Scottsdale City Council Tuesday unanimously adopted a new ordinance that provides vital support to its employees as they journey into parenthood.

The City Council’s action grants eligible city employees four weeks of continuous paid parental leave, whether they are welcoming a new child through birth, adoption, or foster care placement.

“Scottsdale’s parental paid leave policy reaffirms our dedication to support growing families,” said Mayor David D. Ortega. “Whether through birth or adoption, our employees can enjoy quality time during these joyful life events.”

The new parental paid leave policy reflects Scottsdale’s commitment to creating a supportive work environment that values the well-being of its employees and their families. Leave runs concurrently with the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and is available to employees who meet specific eligibility criteria. It must be used on a continuous basis and can be taken within 12 months of the date of birth, adoption, or foster care placement.
