Police Arrest Scottsdale Man In Shooting Death While Camping In Tonto National Forest

A Scottsdale man has been arrested for the shooting death of a man at a campsite Saturday morning northeast of Payson in the Tonto National Forest.

The Gila County Sheriff’s Office arrested Scottsdale resident Zachary Dillabough, 26-year-old on Saturday, accused in the shooting death of a man at a campsite. Officers received a call around 4:30 a.m. regarding report of gunfire. The caller reported she was driving towards Payson and witnessed a woman was running out of the woods.

GCSO deputies, Payson Police Department and Tonto Apache Police Department were called to the scene to investigate.

When law enforcement arrived to the campsite they found a man dead at the scene. Officers took Dillabough into custody. He was booked into jail Saturday afternoon on a 2nd-degree murder charge.

The name of the victim has yet to be released. The investigation is ongoing.
