The city of Phoenix’s Parks and Recreation Department has announced that after being closed for the last three years, Dreamy Draw Recreation Area will reopen on Thursday.

During the long closure, trails were open to hikers but getting to the trailheads were challenging due to the parking lot closure. The bike path in the area was also previously closed, but the city reopened that back in May. The entire area was supposed to reopen in December 2022, but due to delays with the pipeline project, the reopening was pushed back. Supplies and staffing were the cause of the delays.

The recreation area has been revamped and now includes four new ramadas, new restroom facility, and an additional 24 saguaros surrounding the area.

The city increased the number of parking spots in the lot, doubling the total amount.  In addition, ADA-compliant ramps were added to the area.

The area was shut shut down while the city worked on the water pipelines that run underneath the trails.

The renovations cost the city of Phoenix approximately $6 million.
