If you have plans to head out of town this weekend, be sure to check for road closures.

US 60 is currently closed in both directions north of Globe after a wildfire started Wednesday afternoon. The highway is closed from milepost 256 to 311 due to the Flying V Fire.

The Flying V Fire was one of six that ignited along US 60 on Wednesday.

The good news is that five of the six fires were quickly contained to less than half an acre each. However, the Flying V Fire has spread to a reported 751 acres.

The fire is burning in a northeast direction west of the roadway and at the time, no structures are threatened.

At the present time, it is unknown when US 60 will reopen.

Officials are asking drivers to make sure their vehicles and trailers are maintained, with no chains dragging on the roadway. The smallest spark can ignite a major destructive wildfire.
