The Phoenix City Council has approved $20 million in funds for a public art plan. New artwork will include 12 new projects and repairing 30 existing ones over the next 5 years.

The Phoenix Office of Arts and Culture department reports that the city’s art program has been in existence for nearly 40 years. A lot of their past projects are desperately in need of repair and fixes.

The approved plan will include murals, sculptures and art installation throughout the city of Phoenix. There is a city ordinance in place that requires 1% of capital improvement program funds be used for public artwork. This plan will include the city hiring local and out-of-state artists to complete the projected projects.
