Following The Law With Fireworks

With the Fourth of July holiday right around the corner, certain fireworks will once again be legal to use across Arizona but there is a lot to know before you buy.

Fireworks are only allowed between May 4 to May 6, June 24 to July 6, Dec. 24 to Jan. 3 and the second and third days of Diwali. However, not all fireworks are legal in the state of Arizona.

Only cylindrical, cone fountains, ground spinners, flitter and ground sparklers and illuminating torches are allowed.

A good rule of thumb to remember when purchasing fireworks is – if it shoots into the air, it is not legal. This includes bottle rockets, Roman candles, firecrackers, etc.

When using fireworks, create a safe environment for yourself and your pets this Fourth of July. To safely light fireworks, make sure they are secured on the ground away from people and animals and use a stem lighter such as a grill lighter. Only light one firework at a time. Lighting multiple fireworks at the same time increases the risk of accidents occurring from the fuse burning faster than designed. Also, be prepared to have a safe disposal plan for after your fireworks.
