Netflix Announces Plan To Charge An Extra $8 Monthly To Subscribers Who Share Account

Starting today, Netflix announced they will be sending an email to subscribers who are sharing Netflix outside their household in the United States.

Months ago, the streaming company announced plans to control what they are saying is a large number of account password sharing. In an effort to grow their subscriber base, the company has put together a plan to crack down on password sharing.

A Netflix account is for use by one household. Everyone living in that household can use Netflix wherever they are — at home, on the go, on holiday — and take advantage of new features like Transfer Profile and Manage Access and Devices. Subscribers who are part of Netflix’s standard or premium plans will pay $15.50 to $20 per month. Their new plan will allow others living outside their households to use their password for an additional $8 per month.

Netflix will also offer a way for the account holder to check which devices are signed into their account. Subscribers have the option to “sign out” of devices that should not have access.

Netflix is suggesting that subscribers change their passwords.
