After a very dry and warm start to the winter, it looks like Phoenix will have a wet Christmas and northern Arizona may experience a white Christmas with storm systems that is set to come through the state over the holiday weekend.

Parts of Phoenix could get up to an inch of rain between Thursday night and Sunday morning.

Through the weekend, the same storm should also bring snow to the high country There is a chance for an inch of snow in areas above 6,000 feet, including Flagstaff. Areas above 7,000 feet could have the opportunity to get three to eight inches of snow, including the San Francisco Peaks, Kaibab Plateau, and White Mountains.

The chances top out a 70% for Christmas Eve on Friday and remain at 50% for Christmas Day.

Prescott, Payson and Sedona also have strong precipitation chances over the holiday weekend as well.

Authorities are warning that travel may become hazardous across higher elevation of the state, specifically on Christmas Eve.

Areas above 7,000 feet could pick up three to eight inches of snow, including the San Francisco Peaks, Kaibab Plateau, and White Mountains, so there is a decent chance for a “White Christmas” for parts of Arizona this year, which is defined as having one inch of snow on the ground on Christmas Day!
