Pack a bag, your suitcase and travel to your hotel across town to enjoy some rest, the relaxation, the escape! The best part is it is not too late to enjoy a summer staycation with one of the many deals around the Valley.

With the many great resorts around the valley, staycations have always been popular for Arizona resorts during in the summer months. This year however, the Arizona Office of Tourism has reported that resorts are seeing higher number of visitors numbers in recent years. It is a welcomed sign after the 2020 pandemic.

Great Wolf Lodge representative Isela Kerbaugh says their Scottsdale staycation business has been really strong this year. A resort that offers amenities for the entire family is key.

“We are very convenient to them because we are close,” explains Kerbaugh. “It’s a place where you can just drive right up and enjoy the resort.”

At the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess, management has reported that their leisure business is up 20% over 2019.

“People are ready to get out,” explains Pam Gilbert, Director of Sales and Marketing at the Princess. “They’re doing a combination of summer travel, taking longer trips, but many people want those short little escapes with the family so the staycation market is alive and well.”

Experts says convenience of a staycation is a major factor driving those staycation numbers.

“It’s not as hard to get ready for. You can throw things in a car. You don’t have to go to the airport, get there two hours early, wait, and hope your flight is going to be on time.”

Debbie Johnson, Director of the Arizona Office of Tourism reiterates that even as we navigate thru the Covid issues, staying close to home, but still getting the opportunity to go out and to do something fun is important.

“Staycations are really an option for people to stay closer to home to really feel like they’re still getting out and having fun with family and friends,” Johnson says. “It’s what we missed so much the last year and people are taking advantage.”

Johnson says exact staycation numbers won’t be released until Labor Day, but the mid-summer signs are proving to be good news for the Valley resorts.
