Four Arizona airports are set to receive $31.3 million in funding from a grant issued by the Federal Aviation Administration on Tuesday morning.

Phoenix Sky Harbor will receive nearly $22 million, the largest portion of money allocated to the state, to help with apron reconstruction. Prescott Regional Airport, Winslow-Lindbergh Regional Airport and Ryan Field Airport near Tucson were also awarded money from the grant.

“This $1.2 billion federal investment will improve our nation’s airport infrastructure, enhance safety, and strengthen growth in local communities, which is especially important as the economy recovers from COVID-19,” U.S. Transportation Secretary Elaine L. Chao said in a press release.

The grant will distribute $1.2 billion to 434 airports across the country.

Prescott Regional Airport will receive $5.5 million for taxiway reconstruction. Winslow-Lindbergh Regional Airport will receive $3.3 million for taxiway reconstruction, also. Ryan Field Airport will receive nearly $635,000 for installing weather-reporting equipment.

According to the press release, airports have received $10 billion in economic assistance since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic and $13.5 billion since January 2017.
