The Larsen Art Auction in Scottsdale returns Oct. 17 with 440 works, including pieces by major Latin American artists, acclaimed women artists and some of the biggest names represented in the Arizona auction’s history.
Art collectors will have another reason to head to Scottsdale this fall.
The Larsen Art Auction in Scottsdale returns Saturday, Oct. 17, 2026, with 440 lots spanning contemporary, modern, Southwestern, Native American and Latin American art. Larsen Gallery says the event will be its largest art auction to date.
Among the highlights are works by Latin American masters Jesús Rafael Soto, Roberto Matta and Oswaldo Vigas, along with acclaimed women artists Françoise Gilot, Emily Mason and Beth Cavener. The six highlighted artists have works with a combined estimated value between $580,000 and $930,000.
For Valley collectors, the auction offers a chance to see works carrying six-figure estimates alongside more accessible pieces starting in the hundreds of dollars.
Major Latin American Art Comes to Scottsdale
Several of the most valuable works in the Larsen Fall Art Auction come from major figures in Latin American art.
Venezuelan artist Oswaldo Vigas’ “Grupo Azul,” a 1976 oil on canvas measuring 56.5 by 45 inches, is estimated to sell for between $130,000 and $180,000. His 1985 painting “Duende Azul” will also be offered.
Vigas’ career spanned more than six decades, with pre-Columbian imagery and European modernism influencing his paintings, prints and ceramics.
Another major lot is Venezuelan artist Jesús Rafael Soto’s “Variantes Vertical.” Created in 1998 from painted wood with metal mounting hardware, the three-dimensional work carries an estimated value of $100,000 to $200,000.
Soto moved to Paris in 1950 and became part of the city’s avant-garde art scene, becoming known for work exploring movement, space and perception.
Chilean artist Roberto Matta is represented by a large 1995 untitled oil on canvas measuring 53.5 by 79 inches. Larsen Gallery estimates the painting will sell for between $70,000 and $100,000.
Larsen Auction Highlights Women Artists
The Scottsdale auction will also feature works from acclaimed women artists spanning different generations and mediums.
Among them is French painter Françoise Gilot’s “Springtime in the Hills,” a 1992 oil on canvas. Gilot’s artistic career stretched more than 70 years, and she continued creating into her 90s.
American abstract painter and printmaker Emily Mason is represented by “Starboard,” a 2008 oil on canvas.
One of the most visually striking pieces in the auction comes from contemporary sculptor Beth Cavener.
Her “Untitled (Barrel with Kid)” stands more than 10 feet tall and combines stoneware with acrylic, cloth, rope, iron, metal and wood. Cavener is known for using animal forms and expressive poses to explore human emotions including fear, desire and vulnerability.
Scottsdale’s Larsen Gallery Draws Collectors From Around the World
The October sale will mark the 21st installment of the biannual Larsen Art Auction.
Larsen Gallery has operated in Scottsdale for 35 years and reports more than $25 million in lifetime auction sales. Its April 2026 auction attracted buyers from more than 40 states and 20 countries.
The gallery has also attracted some recognizable consignors over the years. Arizona rock legend Alice Cooper previously consigned an Andy Warhol work through Larsen Gallery.
Auction day itself is designed to be more energetic than the stereotypical quiet fine-art auction. Award-winning auctioneer Jason Brooks incorporates humor and audience interaction into the event.
How to Attend the Larsen Art Auction in Scottsdale
Collectors can preview available lots approximately one month before the Oct. 17 auction.
Larsen Gallery will also hold a preview party Wednesday, Oct. 14, giving prospective bidders and art enthusiasts an opportunity to see the works before auction day.
Live, telephone, absentee and online bidding will be available during the auction.
