Phoenix’s dining scene is getting a bold new addition. Camello, the flagship restaurant from 151 Hospitality, opens February 2 at The Esplanade on the Camelback Corridor. Created by seasoned Phoenix restaurateurs Rick Phillips and Peter Hearn, the space blends elevated Mexican cuisine with a lively, high-energy nightlife vibe.
A Culinary Vision from Executive Chef Julio Mata
Camello’s menu is led by Executive Chef Julio Mata, known for his work at Barrio Café and Barrio Queen. Hailing from Guaymas, Mexico, Chef Mata creates dishes inspired by his roots while keeping them fresh and modern. Guests can expect vibrant shared plates, including rotating tlayudas, tableside ceviche, a variety of aguachiles, and enchiladas with colorful, house-made moles. Standout entrees include a 48-ounce Carne Asada Tomahawk Ribeye, Whole Red Snapper, and Pollo a La Parilla.
Cocktails That Match the Energy
The bar program at Camello takes center stage. Signature frozen cocktails are elevated with mixology flair, offering fun and innovative drinks beyond your typical slushy. The tequila and mezcal selection is curated with care, focusing on quality over quantity. Fans of frozen drinks and creative cocktails will find plenty to enjoy here.
A Luxe, Retro-Glam Space
Spanning 6,000 square feet and seating 150 guests, Camello pairs its menu with a striking, retro-glam design. Indoor and outdoor spaces showcase Camelback Mountain views, a disco-inspired back bar, zebra-striped booths, and a patio with pink umbrellas and firepits. Even the bathrooms feature playful touches, from Dali-style epoxy floors to Patrick Nagel art prints. The space is built for both dining and late-night socializing, complete with room for dancing and live Latin playlists.
Dining Anytime, Day or Night
Camello opens for dinner February 2 and expands to lunch on February 9. Operating from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on weekdays and until 1 a.m. on weekends, it offers flexible experiences. Visitors can stop by for a quick lunch, indulge in a festive dinner, or enjoy cocktails and dancing into the night. Weekend brunch and patio vibes add another layer of appeal.
Camello promises to become a go-to destination for locals seeking a playful, elevated Mexican dining experience paired with high-energy nightlife on the Camelback Corridor.
