Looking for a new way to unwind, connect, and learn something totally unique? The Phoenix Mahjong Club might just be your next favorite hangout.
Longtime friends Julia Zastrow, Leah Seidelmann, and Rachel Semro are the founders of the Phoenix Mahjong Club. This local club is on a mission to bring people together through the joy of mahjong. Whether you’ve never touched a tile or you’ve been playing for years, everyone’s welcome at the table.
At first glance, mahjong might seem a little intimidating—there are racks, tiles, rules—but don’t worry. The club makes it easy (and fun) to learn. They host relaxed game nights, beginner-friendly workshops, and private lessons primarily in Arcadia.
Their beginner mahjong lessons are popular, with spots filling up quickly. Each session is designed to help new players feel confident, turning what can seem like a complex game into something approachable and enjoyable.
For the founders, the Phoenix Mahjong Club is also about building community. Every event is a way to connect with others and make new friends and give back to the community. Recently, they held a school supply drive for Hope Ignites Phoenix, an organization that aids motivated middle and high school students from under-resourced backgrounds.
Whether you’re interested in sharpening your mind, picking up a new hobby, or simply enjoying good company, the Phoenix Mahjong Club offers a fresh take on community and connection.
