A fresh addition to the Uptown Phoenix dining scene officially opened its doors on June 10: Lydia’s Kitchen & Market, an all-day café and restaurant located at The Frederick. This concept brings an elevated yet unpretentious menu and curated market offerings to the heart of the Upper Middle neighborhoods. Lydia’s offers warm hospitality, refined flavor, and neighborhood charm in a thoughtfully designed space that encourages guests to slow down and savor.
This new spot is the latest concept from Jonathan Madrigal, the visionary behind Berdena’s coffee shops. He partnered with Chantell Nighswonger and Kevin Cieszkowski, the developers of The Frederick. Together, they’ve transformed a corner of the boutique retail complex into a cozy-yet-modern space defined by natural textures, soft neutral palettes, and sun-filled interiors.
During the day, Lydia’s serves a simple yet thoughtful menu. For example, morning items include lemon ricotta pancakes with blueberry compote, overnight French toast with orange mascarpone and walnut crunch. Included on the menu is Oeufs en Cocotte, a savory baked egg dish with bacon, fontina, and shallot cream. Guests can also enjoy classics like the yeast-raised waffle, a seasonal veggie scramble, or house-smoked salmon on pumpernickel crostini.
As the day progresses, the offerings become heartier. The Classic Burger features Ranchers Reserve beef and tarragon aioli. Meanwhile, the Fried Chicken Sandwich adds chipotle aioli and house-made pickles on a buttermilk bun. For something more refined, the Croque Monsieur layers rosemary ham, gruyère, and béchamel with Herb de Provence. Guests can enjoy also specialty coffee or a glass of natural wine, curated to complement the timeless and elegant atmosphere.
Adjacent to the café is a small market space, curated with a selection of locally sourced goods. It’s a nod to the team’s mission of creating an experience that combines everyday indulgence with neighborhood convenience.
Lydia’s Kitchen & Market at The Frederick feels like a natural evolution of Phoenix’s growing culinary scene: intimate, intentional, and rooted in community. Whether you’re visiting for a quick bite or a long conversation, Lydia’s welcomes you to stay awhile.
