Authorities Seize Over 1,800 Pounds of Meth and Fentanyl in Phoenix Drug Bust
PHOENIX — Law enforcement officials seized more than 1,800 pounds of methamphetamine and fentanyl in a massive drug bust on Monday, marking a major disruption in the flow of dangerous narcotics into Arizona communities. The Arizona Department of Public Safety (AZDPS) announced the seizure, which had an estimated street value of $3.4 million.
The operation began with a traffic stop, where authorities discovered 50 pounds of methamphetamine. This led investigators to a residence in Phoenix, where the Arizona Financial Crimes Task Force uncovered an additional 1,767 pounds of illicit drugs. The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) played a key role in the investigation.
Authorities Respond to Record Seizure
AZDPS Director Colonel Jeffrey Glover emphasized the impact of the bust, calling it a major victory in the fight against drug trafficking.
“This seizure represents a significant disruption to the flow of dangerous drugs into our communities,” Glover said. “The sheer amount of methamphetamine and fentanyl recovered underscores the ongoing battle we are fighting against drug traffickers who profit from addiction and suffering.”
DEA Special Agent in Charge Cheri Oz echoed the urgency of the situation, stating, “The criminals behind these drugs are ruthless, and they have no regard for the destruction they leave behind. This seizure represents lives saved and a direct hit to the criminal networks flooding our neighborhoods with poison.”
What Was Seized?
Authorities confiscated:
- 1,609 pounds of methamphetamine – equivalent to 3.65 million lethal doses
- 161 pounds of fentanyl pills – approximately 735,000 potentially fatal doses
- 47 pounds of fentanyl powder – capable of producing 10.8 million lethal doses
The drugs had a street value of $3,405,400 in Arizona, with even higher potential profits if trafficked further east, according to AZDPS.
Authorities warn that the volume of narcotics seized highlights the severe public safety threat posed by drug trafficking networks operating in the region. Investigations into the criminal organizations behind the operation remain ongoing.
