PHOENIX — Metro Phoenix drivers can expect significant progress on several major freeway projects as 2025 gets underway, including the completion of Arizona’s largest freeway project in history.

The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) is preparing to wrap up the I-10 Broadway Curve Improvement Project, among other key initiatives, while launching new construction efforts to improve traffic flow and connectivity across the region.

Projects Nearing Completion

I-10 Broadway Curve Improvement Project

ADOT’s most extensive freeway project, which began in fall 2021, is set to finish this year. Spanning 11 miles in the East Valley, the project includes additional lanes, elevated ramps at the I-10/State Route 143 interchange, pedestrian and cyclist bridges, and a widened Guadalupe Road bridge. Completion is expected by fall 2025.

I-17 Improvement Project (Anthem Way to Sunset Point)

This 23-mile project, which started in late 2024, is slated for completion by late 2025. The addition of third lanes in both directions between Anthem Way and Black Canyon City is nearly done, while work continues on an 8-mile flex lane system north of Black Canyon City.

I-17 Resurfacing Project (Happy Valley Road to State Route 74)

The north Phoenix project, which began in May 2024, involves diamond grinding of the freeway’s concrete surface and is expected to be completed by March 2025.

I-10 Gila River Bridge Construction

Work began in summer 2024 to replace aging bridges southeast of Riggs Road. Completion is anticipated by summer 2026.
