Become a Foster Hero and Make a Difference with the Arizona Humane Society

Thinking about fostering a pet? The Arizona Humane Society (AHS) offers a wonderful opportunity for you to become a “Foster Hero” and provide a temporary home for pets in need. Whether you’re helping a dog, cat, or even a bunny, your role as a foster caregiver is vital in giving these animals a second chance at finding their forever homes. Here’s everything you need to know about fostering through AHS and how you can get started.

Why Foster?

Fostering a pet is more than just providing a temporary home; it’s about creating a nurturing environment that allows an animal to heal, grow, and thrive outside of the shelter. By fostering, you help alleviate the stress on shelter resources and open up space for another pet in need.

What AHS Provides to Foster Heroes

One of the perks of fostering with AHS is that they supply all the necessary medical supplies and medications your foster pet will need. If you’re concerned about the basics like food, blankets, or toys, AHS often receives donations of these items and can provide them upon request and availability. Plus, their experienced staff is always on hand to support you through any unique circumstances that might come up during your fostering journey.

Can Your Foster Pet Play with Your Own Pets?

AHS advises that foster pets be kept separate from your household pets for the first 10–14 days of fostering. Occasionally, some foster pets might need extended separation time or confinement to a kennel, but don’t worry—AHS staff will guide you through these processes to the happiness of your new pooch!

What If You Want to Adopt Your Foster Pet?

Falling in love with your foster pet? You’re not alone! Many fosters end up adopting the animals they care for. At AHS, foster caregivers usually have the first right to adopt their foster pet. And if you’ve found another loving home for your foster pet through friends or family, AHS’s Home-to-Home Heroes program supports you in facilitating that adoption.

Ready to make a lasting impact? Join AHS as a Foster Hero today, and be part of a community that’s making a real difference in the lives of pets across Arizona.
