Cochise County Sheriff’s Office Arrests Man for Threatening Donald Trump
On Wednesday, August 21, 2024, the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office was alerted to a disturbing social media post containing threats directed at Donald Trump, who was visiting the area as a political candidate. The threatening message indicated an intent to cause bodily harm to Trump, prompting an immediate investigation.
The investigation quickly identified the suspect as Ronald Syvrud, a man already wanted on multiple outstanding warrants. Among the warrants was a felony charge from Graham County for failing to register as a sex offender. Recognizing the potential danger posed by Syvrud, the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office released a wanted flyer and appealed to the public for information on his whereabouts.
The situation escalated on Thursday, August 22, 2024, when a second threatening post from Syvrud was discovered on social media. With Trump’s visit to the area that day, law enforcement agencies prioritized locating Syvrud to mitigate any potential threat.
Through coordinated intelligence efforts, authorities pinpointed a possible location for Syvrud in the St. David area. Multiple law enforcement units were deployed to the scene, where they soon observed Syvrud traveling outside the identified location. At approximately 2:16 p.m., officers executed a felony stop, successfully apprehending Syvrud without incident by 2:30 p.m.
Syvrud was taken into custody and booked into the Cochise County Jail on his existing felony warrant for failing to register as a sex offender, along with two counts of threatening in connection to the social media posts. He remains in custody pending further legal proceedings.
The Cochise County Sheriff’s Office praised the seamless collaboration between local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, which ensured the safe resolution of the situation without harm to the community or public safety personnel. The Sheriff’s Office expressed gratitude for the public’s assistance and reaffirmed their commitment to protecting the citizens of Cochise County.
“We are proud to be your representatives in Cochise County,” the Sheriff’s Office stated, emphasizing their dedication to maintaining public safety through vigilance and cooperation.
