Iconic Tucson Bar “Dirtbag’s” Expands to Phoenix
Dirtbag’s, the legendary Tucson bar known for its vibrant atmosphere and deep ties to the University of Arizona community, is officially opening a new location in Phoenix. This expansion brings a beloved piece of Tucson tradition to the Valley, promising the same food, drinks, and unique experiences that have made it a staple for over three decades.
Dirtbag’s has been an integral part of the Tucson and University of Arizona culture. It’s a popular spot for pre-game gatherings before UA sporting events, a favorite lunch destination for local businesses, and a buzzing nightlife hub. Known for its eclectic décor, including donated license plates and autographed UA memorabilia, Dirtbag’s embodies a rich history filled with stories of professional athletes, celebrities, and cherished memories.
On the menu at Dirtbag’s, patrons can dive into a selection of raunchy and adventurous alcoholic drinks that have become legendary among regulars. Try the Alabama Slammer, a wild mix of Southern Comfort, amaretto, Sloe gin, and orange juice, or the provocative Sex on the Beach, blending vodka, peach schnapps, cranberry juice, and a touch of orange juice for a fun twist. For a daring experience, there’s the Mind Eraser, a three-layered shot that’s perfect for capping off game day or just a tough day. Alongside these bold beverages, Dirtbag’s offers lunch specials like juicy burgers and satisfying sandwiches, making it the ultimate destination for both outrageous drinks and inexpensive, hearty meals.
Now, Phoenix residents have the chance to create their own memories at Dirtbag’s Phoenix, located at 4801 E Indian School Road. “Dirtbag’s Phoenix will bring that same energy and exciting vibes that you’ve experienced in Tucson in a new location where you can enjoy the same food, drinks, and shots you always loved along with some of our local Phoenix surprises!” said co-owner Scott Hibler.
The expansion is not just a single venture. Hibler sees significant potential for Dirtbag’s to grow across the Valley. “Absolutely. I think that this brand can evolve pretty quickly. I think there’s a lot of Wildcat contingencies in different pockets of the Valley. And I think that we can probably put a smaller one around the valley in different markets. I think Chandler, Gilbert are [targets, the] West Valley for sure […] even up in north Scottsdale. The U of A alumni here is […] there’s a ton, we all know that,” he shared with ABC15.
Dirtbag’s Phoenix opened its doors this weekend and the bar will serve lunch from Monday to Friday. As football season amps up, Dirtbag’s will open earlier on weekends to cater to season enthusiasts. “During the week, we’re going to close at 10 [p.m.] but Thursday, Friday, Saturday, our target market we’re [going to] be open till 2 a.m. It’s going to be a lot of fun,” said Hibler.
Whether you’re a long-time Bagger or new to the Dirtbag’s experience, the Phoenix location aims to provide the same sense of community and excitement that has defined it for years. This expansion marks an exciting new chapter for Dirtbag’s, bringing a cherished Tucson institution to a broader audience.
