Arizona Man Indictment For Alleged Patient Brokering

Attorney General Kris Mayes announced on Thursday that the State Grand Jury has indicted 41-year-old Corey Beckhum for conspiracy and unlawful consideration for the referral of patients.

The indictment alleges that Beckhum offered to provide patients to an AHCCCS-funded behavioral health facility in exchange for his receiving per-person, per-day payments while housing them in four unlicensed sober living homes around the Valley.

The investigation that led to the indictment was conducted by Special Agents of the Attorney General’s Office and investigators from the AHCCCS Office of Inspector General.

During the investigation, Special Agents executed a search warrant at Beckhum’s four unlicensed homes, where the agents discovered sixteen individuals living in unsanitary houses. AHCCCS investigators and AHCCCS quality care staff were present to ensure that these sixteen individuals received care coordination and the opportunity to move to licensed facilities that will provide legitimate care and housing.

Beckhum was arrested after he met with an undercover AG Special Agent just prior to the October 16, 2023, search warrants.

Assistant Attorneys General Zachary R. Jones and Catie Kelley are prosecuting this case. All defendants are presumed innocent until convicted in a court of law.
