The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office announced on Monday that they have arrested a suspect in connection to a 2008 sexual assault case involving a 13-year-old girl after DNA evidence identified the male.

The teen victim, whose name has not released, allegedly was lured into a bedroom, and sexually assaulted by two males at a party in June 2008. At the time of the crime, she reported that she only knew the perpetrators as Alex and Ryan.

At the time of the crime, MCSO Special Victims Unit investigators were unable to identify the suspects, and the case was inactive in 2009 after the victim reportedly decided she did not want to continue.

After receiving a grant to process untested sexual assault kits, MCSO submitted the case evidence for analysis in 2017 where investigators got a hit on Male DNA was found in the national DNA database known as CODIS.

33-year-old Alexander Rzeczycki was identified as a potential DNA match in August 2018 and police reopened the case.

MCSO submitted the case to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office, where it was placed before a grand jury. In April, the grand jury indicted Rzeczycki and issued a warrant for his arrest.

On Wednesday, Rzeczycki was arrested and booked into jail on one count of sexual conduct with a minor.

Police report that sadly, the victim died in 2015, three years before DNA technology help with the needed break in the cold case.

Investigators are still searching for the second suspect. Anybody with information about the case was asked to contact MCSO at 602-876-TIPS (8477) with a notation of “IR08-112002.”
