All Three Of Arizona’s State Universities Proposing Tuition Increases for 2023-2024 School Year

The Arizona Board of Regents announced this week that all three of Arizona’s public state universities are proposing tuition increases for the 2023-2024 school year.

While tuition for Arizona State University varies depending on the college the student is enrolled in, on average for in state, the tuition for the 2022-2023 school year is $13,000. That cost does not include extra fees such as books, parking, housing or meal plans. With all those fees added, a student can expect to pay on average of $30,000 or more currently per school year.

Under ASU’s proposed increase, tuition in the Fall would be raised for in-state students who live on campus by 3% or $330. For out-of-state students who live on campus, it jumps to 5% or roughly $1,500.

Northern Arizona University is asking for an increase in tuition by 3% for undergraduate in-state students for the Fall 2023 school year. Housing would also increase more than 4% under the proposal and meal plans go up by 6%.

The University of Arizona is also asking for a 3% raise in tuition for incoming students for Arizona residents and 4% increase for non-residents starting this Fall. The school states that the rate hikes would only apply to new incoming students.

The Board of Regents has not released a budget plan as to what the increase in these rates will be used towards.

The Arizona Board of Regents is scheduled to host a virtual public hearing on March 28th where students can comment on these tuition proposals. On April 20th, the board will vote on tuition and fees for the upcoming school year along with setting maximum tuition growth rates for the five school years.
