The entire valley was a buzz a few weeks ago with events for Super Bowl LVII and the WM Phoenix Open. Initial data has been released and provides a general overview on how the sizeable tourism impact had on our state.

The Super Bowl Host Committee estimates that nearly 300,000 people took part in the Super Bowl Experience in downtown Phoenix. The Super Bowl Watch Party at Margaret T. Hance Park on Super Bowl Sunday also drew a significant crowd with nearly 25,000 people in attendance.

Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport reports that more than 200,000 travelers came through the airport on the Monday post the Super Bowl game. This figure sets a new record for the airport’s single busiest day. The previous record was established in 2015, which was the day after Super Bowl XLIX. That day the airport recorded more than 150,000 visitors traveling through Sky Harbor.

Officials report that more than 250,000 people rode the Valley Metro light rail system which also set a record for the agency Super Bowl Weekend. The fairly new mode of transportation in the valley greatly helped enhance the speed and ease of travel around town for those taking part in events.

In addition to tourists, it has also been reported that more than 6,000 media representatives from all over the world came to Arizona from 24 countries.

The full economic impact report will be released by Arizona State University later this year once all calculations have been completed.
