New Sky Harbor Taxiway To Connect North and South Airfields

On Tuesday, Representative Greg Stanton, Mayor Kate Gallego, and the White House’s Infrastructure Coordinator Mitch Landrieu announced a $194 million federal investment to construct a new 2,000-foot taxiway at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.

This is the first project in the City of Phoenix to benefit from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. The new taxiway will join the north and south airfields on the west end of the airport, allowing for better aircraft flow for airfield operations. Officials view this as a critical investment in the economic engine of the Valley that will create good jobs and help Sky Harbor continue to grow and add new flights.

It is estimated that every week, Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport welcomes nearly 1 million people and a quarter million tons of cargo across the runways. It supports 269,000 jobs across Arizona and generates $38 billion in total economic impact every year.

Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport accomplishes that with just three runways, making it the busiest and most efficient three-runway airport in the world. The new taxiway will take airport functionality to the next level, helping the airport support Arizona’s growing economy and region.

The new taxiway is expected to allow airlines to increase the number of flights arriving and departing in and out of their company’s gates and allow for reduced taxi times and delays. All while this investment will elevate the state’s economy, bringing the potential for new business, new visitors and creating more jobs.
