National Weather Service Issues Excessive Heat Warning Arizona

An excessive heat warning has been issued for portions of southwest Arizona starting today from 11 AM to 8 PM Friday.

The dangerous heat impacting the Arizona desert will consist of temperatures climbing to a high of 113 degrees today in the Valley topping out tomorrow around to 115 degrees.

Overexposure of high heat impacts leads to risk of heat cramps and heat exhaustion and without intervention, can lead to heat stroke.

It is advised that residents stay indoors and seek air-conditioned buildings. Drink water, more than usual, and avoid dehydrating alcoholic, sugary, or caffeinated drinks. If you must be outside for any length of time, dress for the heat. It is recommended to wear lightweight and light-colored clothing. If engaging in outdoor activity, take longer and more frequent breaks and avoid the hottest parts of the day.

Recognize the signs and symptoms of heat-related illness:
-Early signs include thirst and muscle cramps.
-Heat exhaustion may include: cool, moist, pale skin; headache; dizziness; weakness or exhaustion; nausea.
-Heat stroke includes: vomiting; confusion; throbbing headache; decreased alertness or loss of consciousness; high body temperature (above 105F); hot, dry skin; rapid, weak pulse; rapid, shallow breathing; seizures. Heat stroke can be deadly. Treat as an emergency and call 9 1 1.
