AG Brnovich Warning Concertgoers About Deadly Drugs Circulating in Southern Arizona

By on April 8, 2022 0 274Views

As the border and drug crisis continues to overwhelm Arizona, Attorney General Mark Brnovich has a warning for the thousands of people heading to Country Thunder this coming weekend.

It’s common for concertgoers to party while attending the four-day event, and it’s more important than ever for Arizonans to avoid buying and consuming any illegal substances. We know that drug manufacturers in Mexico are mass-producing deadly fake prescription pills that are laced with fentanyl and methamphetamine and moving them into the United States.

“Drug traffickers don’t care about our communities, and apparently, neither does the federal government,” said Attorney General Mark Brnovich. “Please talk to your loved ones if they’re planning to attend any large social gathering where drugs may be present. Just one pill can be deadly.”

In 2021, at least 9.5 million counterfeit pills and more than 5 tons of meth were seized in Arizona alone. More than five people die every day from opioid overdoses in Arizona. Fentanyl overdoses are the leading cause of death for people ages 19 and younger in Pima County.

Drug prices continue to drop, which is reflective of the supply circulating in our communities. Agents in our office are now seeing bulk fentanyl-laced “M-30” pills sell for 45 cents per pill.

This sort of troubling trend will continue until the federal government gets control of our southern border. Drug and human traffickers are taking advantage of the crisis, and it needs to stop.
