Lyft and Uber to Charge Customers Surcharge Due to Rising Cost of Gas

With the rising cost of gas increasing rapidly each day, it may cause you to think of an alternative way to save on gas such as hiring an Uber or Lyft.  However, that might not be the best solution.

Both ride share service companies announced this week plans to add a temporary surcharge to deal with high gas prices.

Beginning Wednesday, March 16, Uber riders will pay a surcharge of either $0.45 or $0.55 on each Uber trip, depending on the drivers location. The surcharges will be based off the average trip distance and the increase in gas prices in each state. 100% of additional fee will go directly into the driver’s pocket to help recoup the price of gas.

The fuel surcharge is expected to remain in effect for the next 60 days. After that, the fee will be reassessed.

Lyft has not announced how much customers can expect to pay with the added fee.
