A Scottsdale man who set off Monday to hike on one of the most difficult trails in the Grand Canyon has been found dead.
Grand Canyon authorities were notified Tuesday morning of an overdue hiker near the trail. An aerial search was launched and they were able to find the body of Ralph Stoll, 57.
Stoll was found about 200 feet below Boucher Trail between Yuma Point and Dripping Springs. He was airlifted from the canyon.
Park officials did not say how he died. The National Park Service and the Coconino County medical examiner’s office are investigating the incident.
Boucher Trail is considered challenging, even for experienced hikers. It’s located in a secluded part of the canyon below the South Rim.
