Phoenix Announces Plans to Bonus City Employees up to $2000 For Being Vaccinated

The Phoenix City Council has voted 6-3 to approve bonuses of up to $2000 for its city employees, under the condition that they have received the COVID-19 vaccine.

Back in November, the City of Phoenix announced that all 14,000 employees had until January 18, 2022 to be fully vaccinated against the coronavirus or risked losing their jobs.
Then news came from the City of Phoenix just a few weeks after that plans to pause the employee vaccine mandate after a federal court ruling.

The now approved City of Phoenix bonus payments would be completely covered by President Joe Biden’s $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan. Bonuses would only go to city staff who are vaccinated by January 18, 2022. This includes full-time and part-time employees. Elected officials, executive staff or managers are not eligible for the bonus.

After the city’s pause on the mandate, council members are hoping this bonus incentive will entice more employees to get the vaccine.

Currently, more than 7,500 employees – or 51% of the city’s workforce have submitted their vaccination status cards.
