With more airlines and flights being offered at Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport, their recent report showed a second straight month of record summer traffic.

Just weeks after announcing it will bring flights to Mesa Gateway from three cities in Canada, Flair shared plans that they are opening Edmonton as a new base in Canada. Flair will now serve four Canadian destinations from Mesa. Along with Edmonton, the airline will provide seasonal service to Calgary, Toronto and Vancouver starting this fall.

The airline also announced plans to offer service to Las Vegas’ McCarran International Airport, Palm Springs Airport and Hollywood Burbank Airport.

The new routes are set to begin the week of Dec. 16 with the Mesa Gateway route operating twice weekly. Tickets start at $99 one way and are available at https://flyflair.com. This is a great alternative for East valley residents who are looking for a quick getaway flight and won’t have to deal with the heavily populated Phoenix Sky Harbor.

Travelers should take note though! While you may find low fares with Flair, the airline has set fees for seat assignments, carry-on and checked luggage.

With the rise in demand for leisure travel, Mesa Gateway saw another month of record traffic in July.

Airport spokesperson Ryan Smith said Mesa Gateway welcomed 168,068 passengers last month. That is an increase from 158,797 in July 2019.

With the increasing growth, the Mesa airport announced plans for construction on a cellphone lot to alleviate congestion at the terminal.

The new lot will be located as you enter the airport at the intersection of Ray and Sossaman roads. It will have 120 parking spaces, security fencing, lighting and bathroom facilities. The airport plans to have the lot open by the beginning of October.
