GCU Student Killed In Movie Theater in California

Tragic news out of California this week. An 18-year-old Grand Canyon University student was shot and killed while watching a screening of ‘The Forever Purge’ in her hometown of Corona, California with her friend.

Rylee Goodrich and her friend, 19-year-old Anthony Barajas, were watching the 9:35 p.m. showing of the movie on Monday when shots were fired inside the theater. Goodrich died at the scene and Barajas remains on life support.

Police arrested 20-year-old Joseph Jimenez at his house in El Cerrito in connection with the shooting on Tuesday. Police searched Jimenez’s house and found a firearm and other evidence related to the crime scene. According to police, Jimenez is being held on $2 million bail and charged with murder, attempted murder and robbery.

Goodrich was a marketing major at GCU and was scheduled to return to Arizona for the fall semester in a few weeks. Goodrich was a native of Corona, graduating from Corona High School where she was a cheerleader, a member of the volleyball team and also a track athlete.

Grand Canyon University tweeted out a statement regarding the incident. “GCU grieves the loss of Rylee Goodrich, a sophomore from Corona California, who was killed Monday night,” read the tweet. ” Join us in lifting up her family and friends in prayer during this difficult time.”

Barajas is a well-known TikTok star and social media influencer, with nearly a million followers on his account.Barajas is known for his singing and comedy videos on his TikTok, @itsanthonymichael.
