Two Arizona cities recently announced they are rescinding their emergency proclamations requiring masks after the CDC said fully vaccinated people don’t have to wear masks in most indoors or outdoors incidents.

Chandler and Scottsdale were the first two Valley cities to say people inside their city buildings and facilities will not be required to wear masks. The mayors of both cities said they are rescinding the requirement to wear masks. In Chandler, the Senior Center will reopen on Monday, May 24, and resume usual activities with social distancing and sanitation efforts. According to the Maricopa County Vaccine Dashboard, 62% of Chandler residents have received one dose and 50% are fully vaccinated.

In Scottsdale, officials said covering one’s nose and mouth when interacting with other people is still encouraged. “The CDC’s latest guidance is another signpost on the road back to normal, and it will be a relief to many. But we still have to be smart, and cautious, because COVID is not gone – we cannot declare ‘all clear’ yet,” said Mayor David Ortega. According to the Maricopa County Vaccine Dashboard, 52% of Scottsdale residents have been fully vaccinated, while 60% have received at least one dose.
