With the approval of the one-shot Johnson and Johnson vaccine over the weekend, there are now three COVID-19 vaccines authorized by the FDA for emergency use.  All three vaccines have gone through extensive testing and have proven to be effective against COVID-19.

Maricopa County has expanded eligibility to adults 55 and older as part of the new Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) hybrid approach to vaccine administration that includes age-based eligibility.  At the same time, ADHS has authorized local health departments to begin vaccinating frontline essential workers based on the CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) guidance.

Maricopa County Public Health is finalizing how to apply the ACIP standards to our large community of frontline essential workers to determine phasing and timelines. It is expected for Maricopa County Public Health to communicate details on Maricopa County’s frontline essential worker plan next week.
