Inmates Arrested After Escaping Florence Prison

Two Arizona fugitives that escaped from an Arizona state prison 5 days ago have been apprehended Thursday morning.

The Coolidge Police Department said it took David Harmon and John Charpiot into custody around 9 a.m. after receiving tips from two Arizona residents. The U.S. Marshals were also involved in the arrests.

Authorities searching for the two fugitives believed they were still in the area of the Florence state prison. Coolidge is approximately 10 miles west of Florence in Pinal County.

Prior to their capture, Charpiot and Harmon were last accounted for at 4 p.m. Saturday. They were missing at the 8:30 p.m. count.

The Arizona Department of Corrections said apprehending the two were their top priority.

Authorities offered rewards of $35,000 each for information leading to their arrest.

Harmon began his 100 year prison sentencing for kidnapping and second-degree burglary in 2012.

Charpiot was sentenced to 35 years for child molestation and sexual abuse and started his prison term in 2011.

According to authorities, the inmates broke into a tool shed by knocking down an air conditioning unit and breaking through a wall.

They were able to access a bolt cutter, wire snips and other items that allowed them to cut through a fence.

Both escaped inmates were also recorded on security footage attempting to rob a business in Florence.
