St. Mary’s Food Needs More Volunteers Due to Demand

St. Mary’s Food Bank is seeking additional volunteers due to a rising number of families in need.

The food bank said it has been short on volunteers to help box food donations since the New Year’s holiday.

The volunteer shortage after the holiday is typical, but it’s putting a strain on resources given the high number of families they are serving.

Currently, the facility’s main locations serve up to 1,000 families a day.

St. Mary’s Food Bank needs around 50 volunteers per shift to run to two lines of box building to keep up with demand.

As of now, they’re averaging about 20 to 30 people.

For those looking to volunteer, the organization is taking all of the necessary COVID-19 precautions such as social distancing, requiring masks and temperature checks.

Volunteers can visit St. Mary’s website to sign up to help out.
