City of Phoenix Testing Resident Hazardous Materials Pickup Program

By on January 15, 2021 0 966Views

The City of Phoenix recently announced that starting Tuesday, January 19th, Phoenix homeowners will be able to schedule a residential pickup time for the disposal of hazardous materials, such as pool chemicals, paint thinner, aerosols, remotes, and batteries.

It is part of a six-month pilot program the City of Phoenix is testing. Prior to this test program, residents of Phoenix had to drop hazardous material items at a central location.

According to Lucas Mariacher, employee for Phoenix’s Public Works Department, COVID-19 is a reason for the program.

“With everything that’s going on with the pandemic, we re-evaluated how we wanted to offer the program,” he said.

“These materials we definitely do not want in the environment. We do not want them in the storm drains. We want to make sure they’re captured and properly disposed of,” he said.

City of Phoenix will test the program for six-months and is scheduled to run through the end of June. The hope is to keep the program up and running long-term.
