ADOT’s Weekend Freeway Travel Closure

A stretch of eastbound Loop 101 in north Phoenix is scheduled to be closed this weekend (Jan. 8-11) for freeway widening construction, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation. A section of westbound Loop 202 (Santan Freeway) in the Chandler area will be restricted on Saturday, Jan. 9. Drivers should allow extra travel time and consider alternate routes while the following weekend freeway restrictions are in place:

  • Eastbound Loop 101 closed between Seventh Street and State Route 51 in the north Valley from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday(Jan. 11) for widening project. Eastbound Loop 101 on-ramp at Seventh Avenue also closed. DETOUR: Consider alternate routes including exiting ahead of Seventh Street and using local routes. Traffic can detour on eastbound Union Hills Drive and use northbound SR 51 to access Loop 101.
  • Westbound Loop 202 narrowed to one lane between Price Road (near Loop 101) and Kyrene Road in Chandler from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday (Jan. 9) for installation of permanent lane striping. Westbound Loop 202 HOV lane ramp to northbound Loop 101 closed. DETOUR: Allow extra travel time and consider alternate routes.
  • Central Avenue closed in both directions at Interstate 17 from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday (Jan. 9) for bridge improvement project. Central Avenue limited to local traffic only between Buckeye and Broadway roads. DETOUR: Alternate routes include Seventh Avenue or Seventh Street.
