December is the time for giving and Walgreens is looking to help provide some of the year’s biggest heroes with much-needed items.

The pharmacy chain is partnering with the Banner Health Foundation to collect in-store donations for products in high demand by hospital workers battling the coronavirus pandemic, according to a press release on Thursday.

Beginning Monday and lasting through Dec. 27, people can donate travel-size gentle skin products, toothpaste and hygiene items. They will also be accepting grab-and-go snacks like mints, gum, candy and granola bars along with bottled water and other beverages.

“With a nationwide shortage of trained professionals to care for the surge of COVID-19 patients in Arizona and across the country, healthy and able frontline hospital staff are working round the clock—making great personal sacrifices,” Dr. Marjorie Bessel, Chief Clinical Officer for Banner Health, said in the release.

The donated products, found in specially marked bins at 80 Valley locations, will be sorted by community volunteers and delivered to Banner Health hospitals in the area.

“Not only do these items provide convenience and relief during long shifts, they also serve as a reminder that the community appreciates their sacrifice,” Bessel said.

“We are so thankful to Walgreens and our community for stepping up to provide these comforting products to our teams.”

People can also directly help those on the frontlines of the pandemic by donating online to the hospitals’ specially designated respite rooms.

Staff in the respite rooms can enjoy provided snacks and products while resting and recharging with comfortable furnishings, guided meditation and music as well as special lighting, according to the release.
