FSL Has Seen a 45% in Demand for Meal Assistance Since Start of Pandemic

By on December 8, 2020 0 778Views

As part of FSL’s many programs that serve Arizona seniors and adults-in need, one of the most impactful ways they help is through their many food programs. With three food pantries which provided 375,000 pounds of food to needy families in Peoria and Wickenburg last year and volunteers who serve or deliver almost 800 meals each  day, FSL is directly responsible for feeding 1,588 Arizonans each day.  With the impact of COVID-19 and the global pandemic, seniors across Arizona are some of the most vulnerable in our community. Many are unable to leave their homes as regularly and have limited access to safe transportation. Since the beginning of the year, FSL has seen a 45% increase in demand for meals for seniors.

The Impact of Your Tax Credit

You can help FSL support Arizonans through COVID by making a dollar-for-dollar tax credit donation.  Earlier this year, FSL  had to cancel their main yearly fundraiser, Hope in Motion — the goal was to raise $98,550 before the end of the year. FSL is almost halfway to their fundraising goal!

In order to maximize your impact to FSL, the new federal income tax deduction can be taken in addition to the Arizona Charitable Tax Credit for 2020. Donors can give up to $400 for a single filer and up to $800 for married couples filing jointly and receive a dollar for dollar credit on your Arizona tax return. You can then give an additional $300 to FSL and take the new deduction on your federal taxes.

The new deduction, which was a provision of the CARES Act signed into law March 27th, would let taxpayers who do not itemize take up to a $300 above-the-line charitable income tax deduction for cash donations made in 2020. So, for those who take the standard deduction, if you give $300 to charity, you’d get the $300 tax break in addition to the standard deduction.

This deduction allows for individuals to support the charities providing aid and resources in their community during this time. Please consider using this deduction to support FSL and the work we do serving the most vulnerable in our Arizona communities.

For over 45 years, FSL has provided safe homes, nutritious meals, health and wellness services and caregiver support for some of Arizona’s most vulnerable citizens. Your donation can make a huge impact in the lives of Arizona seniors and residents in need.
