The latest rankings from U.S. News & World Report place the University of Arizona and Arizona State University among the top 150 best universities in the world.

The Best Global Universities list, which was released Oct. 20, ranked nearly 1,500 higher-education institutions across more than 80 countries.

UArizona cracked the top 100, tying for No. 97 with the University of Southampton in the United Kingdom.

ASU tied for No. 146 with the U.K.’s University of Liverpool.

The list is based on multiple factors that measure academic research performance, as well as each school’s global and regional reputations.

The universities were also ranked by their subjects.

UArizona had seven programs ranked within the top 100, with space science being the top subject at No. 11. Geosciences (23) and plant and animal science (31) were the next highest-ranked subjects.

ASU totaled eight programs within the top 100.

The highest ranking was the Sun Devils’ social sciences and public health program at the 20th spot and economics and business close behind at spot 23.

Earlier this year, UArizona was ranked at No. 97 on U.S. News & World Report’s list of best colleges in the nation. ASU took the No. 103 spot on the same list, but placed No. 1 in most innovative school.
